1. Identification: Spondylus spectrum (Reeve, 1856), Louisa Reef, about 230km off the Brunei coast, Borneo Island, South China Sea, attached to debris on reef in 27m depth, ex Bianci collection 1977, live taken specimen shell.
2. Description: This interesting specimen from pristine coral reef habitat is very large in size and represents the top end of what the taxon can produce. Found attached to shifting gravel and debris in an area protected from strong currents, this individual grew to exceptionally large size and it produced elongated spines in bewildering density and length. A very interesting specimen documenting a very individual story of life, much better than anything you may have seen in a long time.As in all my Spondylus, extra safe packing is being providedwhich includes a strong andlightweightfoam box.
